Governor Rodrigo de Contreras Palace
Colonial Structure No. 3
Built between 1536-1550, this structure features a construction system consisting of adobe brick walls and talpuja earth plaster, with a roof made of clay tiles and a floor of interlocking adobe bricks, arranged in a design known as "fishbone." It had an area of 1,457.25 square meters.
In 1535, Rodrigo de Contreras was appointed governor, a position he held for 12 years. His house was the largest building in the city, "as big as four."
Discovered in 1967 by UNAN - León, this structure was once again buried due to the effects of Hurricane Aleta in 1982. It was rediscovered through archaeological excavations funded by the Junta de Andalucía in 2013.
